¿Quién es Alan Wilkis?
Our Brooklyn-based musician mate, multi-instrumentalist, productor, and general musical mover-and-shaker, proveniente de NYC. Alan Wilkis just sent us su más reciente EP llamado "Pink and Purple". Jampacked with 808s, vintage synths, vocoders, handclaps, hooks, and harmonies. "PAP" is an eclectic romp through the FM airwaves of the 1980s, 6 songs of non-stop-electro-pop dynamite.
Home-recorded from Juio ʻ08 - Febrero ʼ09, "PAP" is Wilkis' sophomore release. On it, él continúa explorándo su único genre-bending aesthetic, crafting un sonido that is at once familiar and yet entirely his own, con influencias ranging desde Prince y Rick James hasta Steve Winwood y Madonna. On the EP-opener, "Snuggle Up To Nail Down," infeccioso Casio beats pop-and-lock their way across the dancefloor. En "N.I.C.E.," Alan floats rubbery synths over squelching basslines y squealing horns. "Dance With You" pits Van Halen contra los Pointer Sisters in a "Jump" contest, y la epopeya "Time Machine" soundtracks The Neverending Story con Phil Collins.
In assembling "PAP", Alan recluta varios de los NY's finest, incluyendo a Gunnar Olsen en la bateria (Dragons Of Zynth, The Exit, Earl Greyhound, Asobi Seksu, Fires of Rome); guitarristas, Grey McMurray (itsnotyouitsme, Bell, Matmos) y Ryan Ferreira (Alarm Will Sound, Bell); Eric Biondo (Antibalas, Shakira, TV on the Radio, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Dirty On Purpose) y Tony Barba (Youngblood Brass Band) on horns.
So peeps invite all yo´people to throw PINK AND PURPLE en su iPod & turn it up real loud. 100% garantizado to slap a smile on your face and throw a serious wiggle in yo' booty.
